Wensday News (Cincinnati Enquier/USA Today)
The article Wednesday from the Enquirer speaks of the death toll rising once again in the Philippines to 286. But the article also speaks of the destruction in countries like Cambodia and Vietnam. The effect of Typhoon Ketsana into other countries brings more prominence to this news story now that it is effecting all of SE Asia. The death count in more than 300 and 286 in Philippines. The Magnitude is huge again as the death toll rises again and now all of SE Asia is being effected. I really don't have impact in this because there isn't a terrible amount of it, cause there probably aren't a great percent of Americans effected by this storm. With all these countries added to the disaster, Novelty is getting higher due to the rarity of this storm as well
Tuesdsay (newyorktimes.com)
When I looked at newyorktimes.com on Tuesday night i was shocked at the headline which read 246 dead. The number had once again increased by at least 100 more from the day before.
The news value of magnitude and conflict just keep on rising. There is a very powerful picture of the capital city of Milan that truly shows the conflict of Natural Disaster. Then with the death toll rising again just adds to magnitude and the article speaks of the 2.3 million people without homes which just increases the magnitude of this story with many people, even if you are not effected you are concerned and mourn for them. And, names in the news is even greater in the Times online article, when they mention that the President of The Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo opened up the Presidential Palace to refugees and was serving food to her people. This also makes this story a semi-human interest piece although it is still hard news.

Monday News
On Monday CNN.com said that the death toll in Manila and the Northern Philippines had climbed 100 more spots from 40 to 140. They then inform you of the situation in the capital city with impassable roads etc.
The same news from Sunday is still high in this case with Novelty and Magnitude. And, now that the number of deaths had increased even higher within a day Magnitude is even greater. Another news value that is unfathomably high is that of Conflict, I wasn't taking the Natural disaster into consideration but that makes this news story score even higher. And in the article on Monday, they news got a quote from the Chairman of the Red Cross in the Philippines which now incorporates the news value Names in News.

Sunday (news values)
This is being written because the news coverage of Sunday that I gave was more or less just a summary versus news values.
This story about the flooding in the northern Philippines scores extremely high on Novelty and Magnitude. Novelty due to the fact that the northern part of the country got nearly more rain in 6 hours than that part of the country gets in a entire month. And Obviously Magnitude factors in because a entire nation is being effected.

News 105 Blog (Sunday National News)
Sunday 27th
Flooding in the Philippines began today in which Manila was at one point 80 percent under water. as reported at this time. According to CNN.com Manila gets an average of 15.4 inches of rain in September and the capital got an astounding 13.4 inches of rain in just six hours. The death count was at 40 when the national news aired on Sunday night (ABC news with Charles Gibson). And you would have to assume would continue to climb as this story is still young that it just happened on Sunday an was being reported that night.

This blog is about the reading in chapter 36 which suggest on how to ask questions and grasp what your reading. One problem I have that this chapter made me think about was considering the larger context. I know that while I am reading more challenging books I tend to give up and believe that the story is going no where. But as it says in this chapter that you do have to slow down your reading with more challenging reads, and consider the larger picture. This is something that I will certainly take into consideration with my next novel I read.

read for 9-22
The topic of analyzing a text is one section of English that comes natural to me or at least I would like to think so. I have spent countless hours on songmeanings.com trying to figure out what different songs mean and what others think they mean as well. Which is why the "Hotel California" article became my favorite. But, some tips did come out of this that I like, and one of them is the way you organize a textual analysis, I have always organized thematically or at least attempted to and never went with option number two.
The second part of this reading was particularly interesting was the compare and contrast of country and western music and rap. Obviously now that the article is some 15 years old I think both genres have grown further apart but the article was written well and i do have a passion for music so i had no issue reading it. The second reading I like in part two of our reading was the Seeing as Believing article with the artwork, depicting artwork to what the artist wants you to see has never been my strength but i certainly enjoyed it and this article.

thursday 17th
The reading for today on editing and proofreading the message seems to be quite simple. And that is to achieve a good piece of writing you have practice every little detail to get there. And unfortunately in my case editing and proofreading is apart of that.
One thing that I did pick up in the editing section of this is that of editing sentences. I have always had a feeling that my sentences lacked flow and different sentences certainly collide with each other, which is ironic that this is the topic in my news class right now as well.

tuesday 15th blog
The reading for today has certainly got me to start analyzing how my own writing flows and the one that caught my attention the most was that of which how i write for other to read on page 209. And, the three questions that you ask yourself when you are writing will certainly come in handy. Then when you turn to page 210 the one thing that I believe needs to be taken from it is that the main point must be to make sure you prove your thesis and never tailor away from that point.
Secondly, in the second part of the reading things that i took away were this: don't be stubborn or shy with someone revising or editing your work, and next the best way to defend an argument, which i certainly struggled with in high school. With the first part I always felt like i had a problem with people revising my work because although I knew my detail was good i struggled with the grammar and I believe I am finally getting over that but the tips from the paragraph certainly help along with revising in which I felt like I would rush over to finish through all of high school. And the way to defend an argument was what I particularly struggled with in Journalism 1 in high school, I felt like I was always writing editorials and being very stubborn while doing so and I took a good amount of tips away especially that of acknowledging the opposing side.
