Thursday (Chicago Tribune)

by Rohan Sullivan of the Associated Press

In the final day of covering the flooding in SE Asia, and once again the death toll in the Philippines climbed once again to 331. This article was just updated from earlier from Wednesday so the story line hadn't changed much from the day before. But, with the number of deaths rising again it shows that this story ranks high on news values, due to the fact that the death toll increased every single day after the initial flooding. Magnitude is higher once again and should continue for the rest of the week since more deaths come in everyday. And now Impact is maybe a tad bit higher to Americans as Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner announced that his men will be assisting the recovery effort with truck bulldozers and forklifts etc. Now that there are Americans aiding the effort and more deaths come in everyday, I believe that this will still be on the news for a while. So Once again Magnitude and Conflict are high, and Names in News and Impact have increased, along with Proximity now that Americans are involved in the cause.
